Adult Forum Change for May 18

Finance 101 Adult Forum on May 18th
Come meet with members of the St. Peter's Finance Committee to get an update as we approach the mid-year point. Learn about how the church's financial decisions are made and where exactly our money goes. Join us as we explore the current budget situation and stewardship issues such as pledging versus loose plate contributions, and how and how much to pledge.

Lay Eucharistic Minister (LEM) Training

We have a thriving ministry of folks who take communion to those who cannot get to church. Currently, we have a greater need than we have LEMs to fill. Please consider participating in this ministry and come to training on Thursday, May 15, 7:30–9:00 p.m. You will get licensed for this important ministry once you have completed the training. Every one who participates finds it rewarding. You will too! Please see The Rev. Ann Martens with questions.

Memorial Service for Emily Mitchell

On April 23 longtime parishioner Emily Mitchell passed away. A graveside memorial will be held on May 15 at 12:00 at Rock Creek Cemetery in Washington, D.C.

Attention: Men of Saint Peter’s

A Special Men’s Breakfast Program (without breakfast) is planned for Saturday, May 31, 2008. The Parish Yard Sale will have the church that day for bargain hunters, so as an alternative to the breakfast, John Duran has arranged for a special tour of the mechanical and backstage spaces of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. This unique tour will be presented only for our group by Roger Mosier, Vice President of Facilities at the Kennedy Center. For reasons of space, only 30 of us can participate, and we’ll take reservations on a first-come, first-reserved basis. Be sure to bring a picture ID to the tour in case there is a security check. We will have to pay for parking at the Kennedy Center; the $16 per car will be shared by all the riders in a car, thus we will gather in St. Peter’s parking lot and leave at 8:00 a.m. in carpools. We should be back to church by 11:00 a.m. To participate, please make your reservation by May 15, 2008, by e-mail to John Duran by phone. If you need either please contact the parish office.

Do you receive the Virginia Episcopalian?

It has come to our attention that several parish families are not receiving their copies of this diocesan publication. If you made a pledge to the church in 2007/2008, your name and address were provided to the Diocese as someone who should be receiving this newsletter. If you currently pledge to the church and are not receiving the VA Episcopalian, please contact Nikol in the church office so we can make sure you get added to the Diocese's mailing list.

2008/2009 Calendar Reminder

The Fellowship Commission is close to having the church calendar of activities that will run until June 2009 ready for the printer. If your group, commission, or committee has an event that you want included in this calendar, please contact Lynn Wilson or Taffy Griffith before May 28th.

May Key Online!

The May edition of the Key is up and online.

The Vision Task Force Needs Your Input

The Vision Task Force needs your prayers and input as it considers where God is leading us as a parish. Please take a moment to pray for St. Peter's this week. Talk with each other about who God is calling St. Peter's to be/become, and then please share what you have learned with us. The members of the task force are: Peter Mason (chair), Kathi Argiropoulos, Suzanne Brannan, Jamie Bugel, Margaret Cohea, Lyndell Core, Catharine Gibson, Taffy Griffith, Nene Hervey, Barret Hildebrand, Ward LeHardy, Lisa Lettau, Scott Radloff, Larry Suiters, and Glenna Winnie. While we prefer to hear from you in person, you can also send your thoughts/comments to us at saintpetersarlington@yahoo.com.

St. Peter's Biannual Yard Sale is COMING!

May 31, 9 am to 1 pm, we will open our doors to delighted shoppers with a treasure trove of ... YOUR unwanted or excessive stuff! To prepare, begin to set aside your donations during your Spring Cleaning -we will take anything EXCEPT: no clothes (except for ages 0-5 years), preferably only small furniture, and no books (save those for the annual bazaar). We will call in all donations beginning Sunday May 25. All donations should be priced by the donors - look for pricing kits to appear in the narthex in May! Start saving!

Sunday School Teachers

Please mark June 7, 9:00-10:30 am on your calendars for our year-end wrap-up meeting. We want to capture what worked well this year and what we need to do for next year. Please help us out by making time for this in your busy schedules. The last Sunday School classes of the year will be June 8.
