A Message from the Rector
Church cookbooks are always more than just a collection of recipes. They are the repository of familial and communal traditions and memories. Whenever we share our recipes with one another, we share something of our family, our heritage, and our fondest memories with others who may not even know us. Through shared recipes we connect with one another across the ages—as many of these recipes go back to our grandparents and beyond—with those with whom we live and work each day, and with those who may never meet us face to face.
Feeding the Flock is a celebration of the people of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and their many gifts, most particularly of the culinary sort. Since the church’s founding in 1961, St. Peter’s has always been a church with a strong sense of community that celebrates life, love for one another, and food.
In the 1st letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians, Paul reminded the Christians there that “just as the body is one and has many members…all the members of the body, though many, are one body (1 Cor 12:12).” Just as a church is composed of many members with diverse gifts and abilities working together as one, so our cookbook is a compilation of many different recipes from a variety of people all unified in one book.
Whether you are a contributor to Feeding the Flock or someone who is trying out a recipe for the first time, you share in the hopes and dreams of our church community.
Whenever you enjoy the results of your cooking and baking from Feeding the Flock, remember to give thanks to God, the giver of every good and perfect gift, who provides us with our food and our many blessings.
Peace,
Craig+
