Sundays are busy at St. Peter’s, but the other days of the week also bring members together to practice their faith in different ways. Four commissions meet monthly to plan and implement opportunities to put words and faith into action: Christian Formation, Fellowship, Mission, and Worship. Other committees meet regularly to address stewardship, hospitality, the church building and grounds, and other facets of parish life.
All St. Peter’s ministries, with the exception of the Finance Committee, meet on either the first or second Tuesday of the month. We begin each Tuesday evening meeting at 7:15 with a 15-minute worship service, then break for our ministry meetings, wrapping up by 9:00 p.m. All are welcome. (Please make sure that your sub-committee is scheduled to meet.)
Building and Grounds Committee
This group of parishioners assists in the care of our building and the surrounding grounds by conducting ongoing maintenance of the church facilities. All kinds of skills are needed to provide a “healing touch,” ranging from big projects that require large numbers of volunteers, to small projects such as taking church chairs home for minor repairs. (Meets on first Tuesdays.)
Christian Formation Commission
Christian Formation refers to our growth in our understanding of God in Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit, and the Christian Formation Commission oversees all areas of Christian Education and spiritual growth. This includes adult forums, Godly Play for young children, Sunday School for preschool through high school, and Godzilla for middle- and high-school students. The commission also includes small groups devoted to spiritual growth, such as the Emmaus group, Women’s Bible Study, and the Men’s and Women’s retreats. (Meets on second Tuesdays.)
Communications Committee
The Communications Committee works to improve the transmission and exchange of information throughout the church via several channels, including a monthly newsletter, The Key (distributed as a print newsletter by mail, and electronically by e-mail or viewed at the Web site); a weekly e-Newsletter; Web logs (blogs); the goldenrod insert distributed in the Sunday service bulletin; informational bulletin boards in the Narthex; this Web site; and other informal methods. (Meets on second Tuesdays.)
Fellowship Commission
Our fellowship ministries offer ways to come to know and appreciate one another, and our ministries of welcome are growing and full of vitality. By the intentional commitment to each other and to those who seek to enter our community, we are faithfully building up the body of Christ. The Fellowship Commission supports fellowship ministries by coordinating fun, food and fellowship activities and events for the congregation of St. Peter’s. (Meets on first Tuesdays.)
Finance Committee
The Finance Committee serves as an advisory arm to the Vestry on fiscal matters, helping the Vestry to fulfill its duty in discerning the congregation’s mission by formulating an annual budget. The committee reviews the church’s finances monthly and oversees expenditures, and with Vestry approval revises the budget mid-year. The committee also advises the Vestry on such topics as endowment funds, clergy and lay salaries, and any long-term financial needs of the church. (The Finance Committee meets on the second Monday at 7:30 p.m.)
Mission Commission
The Mission Commission oversees all areas in which St. Peter’s helps those in need outside our doors. We are committed to national, local and international relief and mission efforts. (Meets on first Tuesdays.)
Newcomers Committee
The Newcomer’s Committee strives to welcome guests and visitors to St. Peter’s and to help newcomers find their place in our parish life, primarily through the work of the Greeter’s Guild. Greeters welcome people arriving for the main Sunday services and offer information and introductions to guests and visitors. The Newcomer’s Committee also works through the Fellowship Commission to plan events at which new and established parishioners can get to know one another. (Meets on first Tuesdays.)
Worship Commission
The Worship Commission assists with the planning of all aspects of worship ranging from music to liturgy, with a goal of developing a dynamic and meaningful Sunday morning experience that brings the individual parishioner closer to God. (Meets on first Tuesdays.)
