Playground Updates: Climbing Wall
Pictured: The beginnings of the climbing wall
We’ve got a quick Friday update, and while it’s short, there’s been plenty happening around the Saint Peter’s playground.
Construction is underway on “the climber”, a central feature that will give kids a variety of ways to move, explore, and test their strength. Looking at some of Nancy Striniste’s past designs, there have been rope ramps, climbing nets, and climbing walls. Stay tuned to see just how this one turns out.

Over in the playhouse, kids can now find pots, pans, muffin tins, and spatulas. These are “loose parts” for pretend play that encourage storytelling and cooperation. These tools embrace the spirit of tactile and open-ended play.

A hammock has been strung up, offering a quiet place to swing or relax.
One of the log structures has been enhanced with a shelf and stumps, creating a cozy corner for gathering or resting.
And a new bin filled with natural materials (sticks, tree cookies, loose wood) now invites kids to personalize the log structures, adding their own flair and creativity to the space. In Nancy’s words, these ever-changing materials “give kids a sense of ownership through creating and changing their playspace.”
