Playground Update: Mosaic Stream

The Saint Peter’s nature playground continues to grow, and the latest additions are bringing even more opportunities for open-ended, nature-connected play.

The mosaic stream has been laid, featuring inlaid glass marbles, tile, and river stones that sparkle in the sun. While we’re still waiting on the water pump (expected in the next couple of weeks), the stream already offers rich sensory experiences through its texture and color, core to the tactile, visual, and imaginative play principles behind Nancy Striniste’s design philosophy.

The sand pit is now complete, bordered with smooth, treated logs that serve as seating or hopping elements, depending on the mood (activity has already been spotted, the Tonka trucks have reportedly been battling it out). In line with Nancy’s EarlySpace approach, this sand area encourages kids to move freely, create their own play narratives, and interact with natural materials.

Today, the team is working on the climbing structure, which will include a net, basic ladder, and rock climbing holds. These features are meant to offer graduated challenges, supporting kids in building strength, coordination, and confidence through physical risk-taking in a safe, natural environment.

And more good news: both the log playhouse frames have been put together! These simple stripped-back frames are intentionally designed to be blank canvases for play, ready to be transformed by kids with loose parts, stories, and imagination.
