Exalt

Grace and peace to you from Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church.
This Sunday, we celebrate Trinity Sunday, a day in the Christian calendar when we praise the mystery and majesty of the Triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. As we prepare our hearts, Psalm 8 invites us to reflect on the wonder and glory of God in all creation.

Psalm 8: A Song of Awe and Praise

O Lord our Governor, how exalted is your name in all the world!” (Psalm 8:1)

Psalm 8 proclaims the greatness of God—the Creator who set the moon and stars in their courses, the One whose love and wisdom surpass all understanding. This psalm is a call to worship, reminding us of our place in God’s creation and the honor bestowed on humanity.

Moments of Pure Praise

Have you ever experienced a moment so holy, so filled with God’s presence, that your only response was praise? These moments—whether in prayer, in nature, or in a simple conversation—come unexpectedly. They are gifts of grace that leave us humbled, filled with the Spirit, and deeply aware of God’s love.

Psalm 8 captures this kind of sacred encounter. It gives us words when we are left speechless by God’s majesty.

Preparing Our Hearts for God’s Presence

While we can’t schedule these holy moments, we can create space for them. Through regular prayer, Bible study, and quiet reflection, we till the soil of our hearts and make room for the Spirit to move.

The psalmist reminds us, “Out of the mouths of infants and children, your majesty is praised above the heavens.” There’s something profound in the way children express awe—without fear or filter. As we grow in faith, we are invited to reclaim that kind of openness and joy in praising God.

Finding God in Everyday Encounters

This past week, I’ve encountered God’s goodness in unexpected ways: during heartfelt conversations, pastoral visits, and even our church staff meeting. These moments remind us that God is near, not only in sacred spaces but in our everyday lives. In those glimpses of divine grace, we remember who we are and whose we are.

Trinity Sunday: A Day to Praise the Holy Name

As we approach Trinity Sunday, we join Christians around the world in lifting our voices in praise to the Triune God. Why not take a moment today to reflect, pray, or listen to something beautiful like Hymn to the Trinity” by P.I. Tchaikovsky?

Let the music and the words of Psalm 8 guide you into a deeper awareness of God’s love and majesty.

May the name of the Lord be exalted in all the earth. And may you know the peace and love of God, today and always.
