Shepherd

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not be in want. ~ Psalm 23:1

Dear People of St. Peters,

Grace and peace to you on this beautiful Saturday. I hope to see you tonight at the biennial Fiesta! in support of our partners in the Dominican Republic. All proceeds benefit Divina Gracia, Mozovi, Santa Maria Virgen, Montellano and Colegio Niño Jesus, Montellano. If you haven’t purchased your tickets, here’s the link to support the DR Mission.

Tomorrow in worship, we will recite the beloved Psalm 23. With its rich imagery of the Good Shepherd guiding the sheep of his own fold through the valley of the shadow of darkness, the psalm is a comfort for many, particularly at the time of death and at funerals.

Psalm 23 was written for a people exiled from their homeland. The journey back was treacherous and filled with peril. They needed to know that God would walk with them through the travails that lie ahead, a God who would abide with them all the days of their lives. And so they sang songs of God whose goodness and mercy would follow them all the days of their life.

I invite you today to view this video that presents modern interpretation of Psalm 23.  May the source of life bless you with freedom and peace.

See you tomorrow at Church. I’ll be preaching on Psalm 23.
