Returning Home

By Ginger Lewis

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Our trip ended with a bang, with delayed flights resulting in the group spending the night in the Miami International Airport. Throughout the stress and confusion of booking new tickets and finding hotel rooms, the team remained positive, with members starting an impromptu dance party with an airport band while waiting outside customs.

This is a theme I have noticed many times throughout the trip. When we encountered bumps in the road, such as the bus issues described by Kristyn Lewis and Bill Montgomery, I was inspired by the group’s dedication to remaining positive. Whenever I felt overwhelmed by the difficult work, that burden was quickly made lighter by the constant smiles and laughter of the people around me.

I feel that I found joy in all areas of this trip. Not only was I surrounded by positivity in the Saint Peter’s Team, but I was also inspired by the welcoming nature of the teachers and other staff of the school, not to mention the seemingly endless energy of the children.

This trip has put many things in perspective for me, and I hope to bring this dedication to positivity home to my community in Arlington.

Our team returned from the DR today. But don’t worry, not in this boat. They took a plane!
