Saying Farewells

Hugs and smiles all around as our group finishes up their work and bids farewell to the amazing people at Colegio Episcopal Niño Jesús

By Cate Lewis

The DR group wrapped up our work today with many smiles and hugs. The painting group led by Heber Willis quickly finished painting a nearby community church. The building group finished up tree trimming and built fences near the bus’s parking spot. The crafting group quickly cut out hundreds of hearts and pipe cleaners for the day’s headband project, and prepped materials for a coffee filter flower craft.

Aside from work being done, in the afternoon, the children said their farewells to us until our next visit. We later reflected on connections we built with those children, hoping we made a lasting impact on their lives.

We wrapped up our day with an evening prayer. We reflected over the week, and each shared what we wanted to take home from the trip. Many mentioned the patience, resilience, joy, and bonds we made with others from our group and friends we made from the vacation bible school.

Later in the night, after dinner, our group celebrated Jay Lewis’s birthday with cake and songs. We all enjoyed this mission trip thoroughly. We know we made an impact, and we look forward to continuing our work in the future.

Today’s update comes from Cate Lewis. Cate Lewis is a youth member on our Dominican Republic trip.
