Let there be light and wind!

by Jorge Nava

Started the day with the St. Peter’s pruning team, lead by commander William Montgomery, aka Guillermo.  After a cursory assessment of the tree canopy’s status it was determined that significant pruning was needed due to low hanging branches obstructing the sun.  Most important was clearing branches to facilitate more sun and airflow.  My team of four worked like a well-oiled machine for hours.  Substitution was requested by member for breaks.

Lunch was delicious and consisted of what I consider Dominican soul food

Loud conversation and creative activity!

After warm up by the teachers with songs and a bit of dancing, excited children were divided into age groups for VBS activities.  The mission team’s need for bilingual knowledge called me for rotation between 3 classrooms.  Feeling the energy and enthusiasm radiating from the children touched me deeply and brought back memories of the joys of prior missions.

Lastly, seeing our young missioners, who have answered the call to serve, relate to their local peers gave me hope for the future and the world.

Today’s update comes from Jorge Nava. Jorge is an active member of Saint Peter’s and can often be seen at the men’s breakfast on Friday mornings.
