We Are All Brothers and Sisters
Joy and bright smiles at Colegio Episcopal Niño Jesús

We are all brothers and sisters
Some days, many days, we learn profound lessons from our younger children.
"On Thursday, I was helping children with nametags as they arrived for our afternoon VBS at the school where we are working, Colegio Episcopal Niño Jesus. There were some boys who were about 8 or 9 years old who were helping a much younger boy, who was maybe 4 or 5 years old. They were so attentive to and were really looking after this younger boy, helping him spell his name, put beads on his name tag, and tie it for him. I asked one of the boys in my rusty Spanish, if the younger boy was his brother. He said no. A moment later, putting a hand on the younger boys shoulder, he followed up with, “Todos somos hermanos,” We are all brothers and sisters. A good reminder that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ and that it is important to look after one another.
We have noted the great respect these children have for their teachers, who are teaching our Bible lesson in Spanish, and a great respect for one another, and the Missioners from Saint Peter’s. They are living out their call to be disciples of Christ.
The faith, joy, and enthusiasm of the children here is unbounded. The care they have for those around them is evident in the ways they respond to one another. The Holy Spirit is at work in this place!
We have spent the past two days having fun leading music and games, helping with VBS crafts, and helping with maintenance on the school (painting, landscaping, building bookshelves). We look forward to the continued relationship building with these wonderful children and one another.
May we all live life with unbounded joy and remember that we are all each other’s brothers and sisters.”
