All Hallow’s Eve
The popular name for this festival is Halloween. It was the eve of Samhain, a pagan Celtic celebration of the beginning of winter and the first day of the new year. This time of the ingathering of the harvest and the approach of winter apparently provided a reminder of human mortality. It was a time when the souls of the dead were said to return to their homes. Bonfires were set on hilltops to frighten away evil spirits.
Samhain was a popular festival at the time when the British Isles were converted to Christianity. The church “adopted” this time of celebration for Christian use by observing All Saints' Day on Nov. 1, and All Hallows' Eve on the evening of Oct. 31. [Source: An Episcopal Dictionary of the Church]
We celebrate All Hallow’s Eve this year with festivities after worship on Sunday, October 29 beginning at 11:30 AM.

Trunk or Treat & Chili-Cookoff
Who will win the chili cook-off this year?
The two main events for our All Hallow’s Eve Festival are a Trunk or Treat and a Chili Cook-off. Bring your best chili. Decorate the trunk of your car and greet children in costume.

Where the fun begins
Whether you are simply giving out candy or inviting children to play a game, trunk or treat is a fun and safe way to celebrate Halloween.
Make your trunk or treat interactive and include a game such as throwing bean bags into a monster’s mouth. Get dressed up yourself! The whole community enjoys this festive event.
