Life Milestones

Let us help you with life events. Baptism, confirmation, marriage, and death are among life’s most significant moments in life. Sickness can also come with significant changes in life. We are here for you. If you would like to mark these events with prayer or a service, please contact the church office to speak to the clergy (703-536-6606) or email the Rector.

A baby is baptized at Saint Peter's Episcopal Church. Any age may be baptized

Baptism

Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body, the Church (Book of Common Prayer, p. 298). It is the foundation for all future church participation and ministry. Individuals may be baptized at any age.

We also offer a service of thanksgiving for the birth or adoption of a child.

St. Peter’s welcomes anyone interested in being baptized.

A youth member is confirmed through the Laying on of Hands by a bishop. Confirmation is typically offered once a year in late Spring

Confirmation

Confirmation is the sacramental rite in which individuals "express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop." Confirmation is available to youth who participate in 8th grade confirmation class and adults prepared to publically affirm their faith. We typically offer confirmation once a year in late Spring.

A couple prepares for their matrimonial ceremony. Saint Peter's welcomes and support marriages of both opposite ad same-sex couples.

Marriage

Christian marriage is when two individuals enter into a life-long commitment before God and the Church, and receive the grace and blessing of God to fulfill their vows. Marriage is intended for the couple’s mutual joy, for the help and comfort in prosperity and adversity, and when it is God’s will, for the gift and heritage of children and their nurture in the knowledge and love of God. We honor, affirm, and support the commitment of opposite and same-sex people in marriage.

Ministering to the sick

If you or a family member is sick and would like a visit or Laying on of Hands and Annointing, please let us know.

The Pastoral Care ministry at st. Peter’s Church supports those who care for the sick or are grieving to care for themselves during periods of illness or loss. To talk about resources for dealing with loss of any kind, please contact the church office at 703-536-6606.

Funerals

Funerals, also called the Burial of the Dead, find their meaning in the resurrection and the promise of everlasting life. If you would like help planning a funeral at St. Peter’s or need resources to deal with loss, contact the church office at 703-536-6606.
