A Joyful Break

by Jay Lewis

What a morning at Saint Peter’s mission trip! If you’ve been following along, you know our group has spent three fulfilling days giving and receiving—through playing, crafting, singing, painting, trimming, and building. We’ve constructed not only bookcases, but meaningful relationships with teachers, clergy, and children. After such heartfelt work, today brought a well-deserved pause.

A Morning of Peace and Promise

Saturday began with our usual breakfast and an extraordinary sight—a beautiful double rainbow stretched across the sky, a reminder of God’s grace and presence. It felt like a divine smile, assuring us that our work and joy are seen and blessed.

Snorkeling Adventure with a Dash of Humor

Our “optional” (yet unanimously attended) activity was a snorkeling cruise—a short walk from the hotel. Timing proved to be one of many blessings, as we learned another group nearby had waited over an hour for their fishing captain. We, on the other hand, met our guide promptly and set out smoothly.

The Atlantic welcomed us with vibrant marine life, especially after the crew tossed bread into the sea. Some fish got a bit too friendly—poor Bill Montgomery's finger was nearly mistaken for a snack!

Sliding Into Joy

Yes, there was a slide! From the second deck of the boat, we dove into the ocean like carefree kids. If there’s an age limit for water slide joy, we certainly didn’t discover it today.

Rest, Reflection, and Reconnection

This relaxing morning had two profound impacts. First, it allowed us to deepen our bonds. Though we’ve shared four days together, they’ve been busy and structured. Today offered moments to laugh, share stories, and simply enjoy each other’s company.

Second, we recharged—physically and spiritually. As I floated in the salty waves, I found myself reflecting on where we are, why we’re here, and the incredible people we’ve encountered. It’s been a gift. And now, I’m ready to return to our mission work Monday—refreshed and filled with gratitude.
