Pedaling Toward Purpose: Molly’s Summer Adventure
For parishioner and UVA rising sophomore Molly Moore, an exciting summer is ahead! Along with five fellow UVA students, she is setting out on a cross-country bike ride—Roots on the Road—beginning Saturday, May 9. Molly will be sharing her experience with Saint Peter’s as she takes on this incredible journey.
Traveling from Washington State to Washington, D.C., Molly and her team will stop at farms, restaurants, truck stops, and classrooms along the way, asking one big question: What is the future of food?
As they travel, they’ll meet farmers, chefs, educators, and everyday eaters, capturing their stories to create a kind of national snapshot of how people think about food today. They’ll be documenting everything in real time on social media and their website, with the hope of sparking conversation and connection between the people who grow our food and the people who eat it.
When they arrive in D.C., the group plans to meet with policymakers and turn what they’ve learned into a storybook designed to help young people better understand where their food comes from—and how agriculture can play a role in caring for our environment.
Molly reached out to the Rev. Jenifer Gamber to share this journey with Saint Peter’s. She reflected, “I really appreciate you bringing up food insecurity, because that’s an important part of the story we’re hoping to capture along the way and highlight afterwards.”
She also shared how much her church home has shaped her perspective, pointing to Saint Peter’s work with AFAC, SOME, Bailey’s Shelter, and the Plot Against Hunger as inspiration.
We hope you’ll follow along with Molly and her fellow travelers through their website, and keep an eye out for updates in the newsletter in the weeks ahead.
Please keep Molly and her companions in your prayers as they take on this meaningful adventure—we’re excited to see where the road leads them.
