Saint Cecilia Choir

James Selway, our Director of Music, shares his thoughts about the Saint Cecilia Choir. There's a seat waiting in the Music Room for any child, from Grade 4 to Grade 12 or even younger, who wants to join in on Sundays.
The Saint Cecilia Choir for young singers in Grades 4 through 12 has begun its 2026-2027 singing season with a light dinner and rehearsal on Wednesday evening, September 9. We did drumming and rhythm work, ear training, vocal warm-ups and rehearsed three anthems including "A Place in the Choir" which will be sung at the Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, October 4 at the 10:15!
The Saint Cecilia Choir takes its name from the legendary patron saint of music, Saint Cecilia, who lived in Roman times in the early years of the Christian movement. She is supposed to have said that she sang in her heart to God, and, that when singing, she prayed doubly to God!
Saint Cecilia Choir singers rehearse each Wednesday from 6:45 to 7:30 pm in our spacious Music Room and also sing from 9:00 to 9:15 am right before Sunday School classes, meeting together in the delightful Music Room and Children's Chapel area on the Sunday School level. Children ages 4 through Grade 3 are also invited as Saint Cecilia Choir singers to sing with us on Sunday School meeting days and to join the offertory anthem presented by the Saint Cecilia Choir at the 10:15 “First Sunday” service.
All children and youth are Saint Cecilia Singers at Saint Peter's and all are welcome! Saint Peter's is truly a "singing parish" and we indeed sing from our hearts!
